New York, NY (April 29, 2010) – A kinetic sculpture that converts weather data into flashing lights and rotating parts will be on view for free at the World Financial Center Plaza from May 10 through December 31.
"Weather Beacon," a new sculpture by artist Erik Guzman, will turn weather into art over the course of four seasons, translating weather data received via radio waves into visual representations of spring breezes, winter winds, and everything in between. Presented by Arts World Financial Center, the eight-foot tall piece aims to provide a stunning new means for the public to engage with the invisible atmospheric changes around them.

New York, NY (March 30, 2010) – Arts World Financial Center will host the U.S. premiere exhibit of “Wisdom: Portraits by Andrew Zuckerman,” an extraordinary collection of photographs and interviews that capture the combined wisdom of legendary leaders including Nelson Mandela, Ted Kennedy, Willie Nelson, Billie Jean King, Clint Eastwood, Madeline Albright, Chuck Close, and others.
From April 29 to May 23, fifty large-format portraits will be displayed under the spectacular glass-vaulted ceiling of the World Financial Center’s Winter Garden. Visitors can walk amongst the giant photographs and view quotes in which the subjects, all of them over the age of 65, share lessons learned from a lifetime of work in such diverse fields as politics, sports, science, art, film, architecture, music, and more.

New York, NY (March 12, 2010) – Arts World Financial Center today announced its Spring 2010 season, continuing its role as New York City’s leading year-round showcase for free performing and visual arts with a diverse lineup of new work and world premieres.
The season kicks off with an ambitious residency by New York Classical Theatre, which will transform an unused storefront at One New York Plaza into the production studio for its 2010 season. Marking its first-ever indoor production, NYCT will stage William Shakespeare’s
Hamlet, Prince of Denmark throughout the 3.5-acre World Financial Center (April 1-18).
Another centerpiece of the season is the U.S. premiere of
Wisdom: Dynamic Portraits by Andrew Zuckerman, a multifaceted project inspired by the idea that one of the greatest gifts one generation can pass to another is its collective wisdom. The book, film, and exhibition by award-winning photographer and filmmaker Andrew Zuckerman create a record of a multicultural group of people who have all made their mark on the world. The artist travelled the globe to interview and photograph 50 of the world’s most iconic figures over the age of 65, chosen in collaboration with Archbishop Desmond Tutu, exhibited at the World Financial Center as extraordinary large-format portraits of famous elders from the worlds of politics, science, sports, and the arts, including Madeleine Albright, Ravi Shankar, Clint Eastwood, Billie Jean King, Nelson Mandela, Jane Goodall, and Chinua Achebe. New York, NY (March 3, 2010) – The bustling World Financial Center will be transformed into Elsinore Castle next month when it hosts a free production of Hamlet, Prince of Denmark by William Shakespeare that will inhabit the sprawling venue as its set.
From April 1-18, New York Classical Theatre will perform William Shakespeare’s tragedy in their signature panoramic staging style, with the audience being drawn into Hamlet’s world as they follow the actors down staircases and around mezzanines throughout the entire World Financial Center complex. Viewers are invited to bring cushions to sit on as they watch the moody Dane brood against the luxurious marble backdrop of a modern-day castle built to celebrate the power and magnificence of New York’s financial community.

With three residencies, including its first-ever extended-run theatrical production, arts>World Financial Center’s 22nd season furthers the organization’s role in supporting established and emerging artists as a part of an eclectic roster of new work and world premieres.
The residencies include New York Classical Theatre’s staging of Hamlet, Prince of Denmark, performed throughout the sprawling World Financial Center, as well as multidisciplinary artist MK Guth’s three-part working exhibition and performance using objects woven from clothes and fabric donated by New Yorkers.
